New clutch?

hi all,
i have a '00 boxster with about 44k miles.
i have noticed that when i am in first gear and release the clutch and apply some revs, there is a whining sqealing noise. it seems to be coming from the front area and is worse when I am starting on incline. It only happens in first gear and is worse when the car is cold. Does this mean a new clutch?

Hi,

I don't think so, a bad clutch usually manifests itself by slipping, not by a noise. What does have noise symptoms associated with it are a Throwout Bearing or Pilot/Spigot Bearing.

But, on a Boxster, none of these noises would be coming from the front. The front would more possibly be a wheel bearing, Power Steering rack or something with a brake caliper. Best to have someone give it a look...

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99
