Gas Cap locking issues

I reviewed postings and did not find anything quite like this, so help please.

When you actuate the lock with the key, the rod does not move into place. If you pull it out by hand it will retract and unlock.

I bought the new part and have had zero success.

Right now the fender well is open and with the mechanism hanging in the loom, the failure is exactly the same.

The rod will not extend out during the locking process.

Single beep response from the car.

If I am not being clear please ask as I sure need some insights.

David

It should be.

Mine never worked either. I replaced the locking mechanism and it still never worked. Never got any single locking beep
I was thinking that there is a programming issue. Debugging the electrical aspect is a daunting task as there is much to remove to get back to it. I have thought of putting some electricity to the old unit to see if it works.
Any starting point to testing the circuit would be helpful.

Mine needs Viagra as well. It wants to lock, but it just doesn't extend far enough. I figure I'll never park it in a neighborhood where stealing gas might occur.

Gas cap lock update

Update, I replaced the locking mechanism to no avail, new one exhibited same failure. To review, will not lock, however if you manually extend the pin it will unlock.

With two straight pins and some wire I did a bench test. By putting power to one pin and then the other I was able to have it extend and retract.

Left to believe that the computer is braindead.

Any thoughts?

Has it ever worked or is this a recent failure? If never, I wonder if the new car turnover coding has anything to do with this....

What does this mean???

I haven't tried pulling the pin out and then unlock yet to see if the pin retracts.

I know that with the durametric pro on one of the module there is a place that will lock the doors the trunks and the gas door turn on the lights I tried it on mine but it did not work either. I'm taking mine to the dealer next month to get it reprogrammed as apparently when I had my module repaired it went in transit mode and they reprogram it to handover mode with the PIWIS to get all electrical working again.

I am coming to the unhappy conclusion that I need to take her to Sunset in Portland Oregon. Expecting to be told that the security box under the seat is toast. Preparing myself for an "ouch".

It did work at one time.

I found that when locking with the door key (versus remote), the lock pin doesn't engage consistently. It seemed to work when the door locks were cycled a few times when the car was running, though.

But back on keyless, works consistently.
