Spec Boxster Accident

I apologize for the cross-post, but for those who don't regularly check the Racing section, I had an exciting weekend...

(please post any comments to the last page in this thread Spec Boxster Build)

Well, it was a great weekend at the track, until this....

I am fine. No injuries.

Car in front of me lost control and spun in Turn 9 at Willow Springs. He was heading to the inside of the track so I went to the outside. Driver said that he failed to hold the brake and then his car reversed direction and came back to the outside. I tried to turn to miss him but it was too late. My right front hit his right rear. My speed was over 90mph.

Yes, the video cam's were working! I will post up the video tomorrow.

The adrenaline must have been really pumping when this happened. Glad you are OK. Too bad the car looks pretty done for.

Glad you're ok, and hope you get her fixed up or replaced, and back on the road soon.

Holy crap! The car angels were with you. Glad you are OK.

Wow, that was a big impact, I am glad you are Ok Tom!

And perhaps hitting the other car was a better option for you than trying to avoid him and going out on T-9 towards the ditch, which may have ended with a much worse outcome for you...

Regarding the car, hopefully you will be able to fix it (in a similar way) that Joel Silverstein fixed his car

Nooooooo!!!!

Porsche9 02-13-2017 06:30 PM

Glad you are okay.

The damage to your car considering the speed and what can happen at that speed doesn't look too bad but that sure sucks.

Burg Boxster 02-14-2017 06:08 AM

Dang... sorry to see, Tom but glad you are ok. At ~ 90MPH usually a lot of really bad things happen really fast - glad mostly sheet metal in this instance. Good job avoiding / minimizing best you could and again, most importantly, you are ok.

Keep us posted on the (re)build. :)

Thanks for all of the well wishes! My 986Forum brothers and sisters are the best.

The video will be posted today in the racing thread...

That was a hard hit! The other guy's wheel went flying from the impact. All in pretty lucky as this could have been worse. How did the other guy fair?

The other driver was fine.

Sheit!

I don't know that driver but he made two critical mistakes in a very spooky place on that track and now two cars are lost. He turned-in WAY too early for 9 which guaranteed he was taking a dirt bath at minimum, and then once all was lost, he failed to stand on his brakes (rear wheels turning backwards) guaranteeing he would collect you in the mayhem. An unavoidable collision for you Tom, sorry. I hate sharing the track with those guys.

Play this game long enough and bad stuff happens. Very fortunate the safety gear worked and both drivers are ok. Time to rebuild and renew.
