Rear trunk won't open

My car is a 2003 S and I can hear the release actuating with the key and the switch by the door but the trunk will not open. Is there another way into the rear trunk?

Mine had an emergency wire under the drivers side fender. The steel cable broke right where it connects to the loop connector that connects to the mechanism.

Most likely the cable on the actuator broke
Its a pretty easy fix
There are a couple of threads on it

Search ebay for a used one They are not that $ and maybe 15-20 min labor
part # is 986.512.117.00

Search for instructions on the emergency trunk release cable to open the trunk

Thanks, I Google searched it and found that there is a cable behind the drivers side tire or above the muffler.

The emergency cable is actually not so easy to use.
It is a very thin braided s/s wire. It is usually trapped between the reaf fender and the inner heat shield behind the rear tire, near the rear lights .
You need to remove all the nearby screws that clamp the fender lip to the heat shield .Then fish around to find it.
But before you do this - the trunk release button on the door sill - push it really hard. The release noises are in 2 stages, a soft thunk and then a deeper note. My guess is that you are missing the second note?
Extend or move the cable to a more accessible location?
