Newbie Option Code ??
I have been lurking around the forum for about 6 months and this is my first post. I am looking to buy a Boxster soon. I found a 2000 Boxster S that is looking pretty good, it only has around 68k. I don't have any service history with the vehicle, so it makes me a little nervous. Working with the dealer to get a PPI done. I am looking for more info on decoding of the options. I did a search and found the list of option codes and VIN # decoders, but it does not show all that I have listed on the label in the frunk. Also, is there any way to tell with date codes if this 986 would have dual row IMSB or not?

There are online lists that cover all the options for this car, do a search and you will find everything you need.
On 2000-2001 cars, the only way to know which style IMS bearing is in the car is to pull it apart and look. All of the "online" methods (VIN numbers, build dates, phases of the moon, etc.) have all proven useless. |
Look for the 986 PET. The option codes are listed in section MSP-Pages.

Great! Thanks for the info. I will have to wait and see what the PPI finds.

Let us know what the PPI shows. We love tagging along thru the purchase process!

The PPI will not show the type of IMS the engine has. Unless the dealer can find an engine number showing a replacement and find out the date of the replacement which may give a hint. But, as JFP says, no sure thing especially in a 2000 which was a transition year.
