The buyer of my Boxster backed out after expressing concern regarding the IMS bearing. I had two potential buyers that contacted me after I listed it as sold, but I have decided to keep it. I had said if I had the garage space I would keep it. I am now going to shop for a four post lift. Once it is installed I’ll keep an eye out for an older (’79 to ’89) 911.

In the end, I believe this worked out for the best. :cheers:

No1 else would of been able to keep up the care you have provided for that car, so glad you will be keeping it.

good to have you back Chuck! i'm glad you didnt sell it, it would have been just another boxster slowly deteriorating. instead it will be one of the best examples of a well kept boxster you will ever come across :)

4 post lift - suggest you discuss before you buy. Many who buy 4 post lifts wish they had got a 2 post. In California I always liked the idea of a 4 poster on casters that I could wheel outside. You'll get lots of very well informed advice on Garage Journal if you post your requirements .

Great news for the forum! That car needs to either stay with Chuck or one of us - glad it's Chuck!

I'm glad to hear you're not leaving. As for getting a lift. You'll get great arguments from both the 2 or 4 post guys, but you'll have to decide what works best for your situation. I have a 4 post and love it! The thing I love most about the 4 post is I can move it anywhere. About the only time I wish I had a two post is when I have to push a dead car up on the lift. Otherwise I've never ran into a problem stripping or working on vehicles.

Ahhhhhh, shucks.... thanks guys. I wasn't real gun ho to sell the Boxster, it just seemed like it was time. I was wrong. My wife told me I was wrong. When the seller backed out I finally figured it out.

As far as the car lift there is a ton of information and opinions and prices. No worries.... I am in no rush and will figure it out.

Glad you're staying.
I doubt anyone else could care for that Boxster the way you have. It would have been a shame to let it go.
So get on that air cooled hunt and keep us posted!

There was never a doubt in my mind that you wouldn't sell it. Anyone who "polishes their Boxster's muffler" is totally dedicated to their Porsche.

Perhaps you should consider your Box as somewhat of an investment now, no matter any naysayers. A pristine example like yours will always be desirable.

I have also considered a lift, so please post updates on your research and decisions. We seem to be on the same wavelength regarding mods (e.g. glass window top, 5-gauge cluster, homelink) so your thoughts on the lift should be enlightening.

I'm thinking that a 4-post lift would work best for me since I would like to store two cars in one garage. I'd like to see how you address issues like the height of your space, and accommodating the garage door opener.

Haaaaaaa... you are probably correct regarding wanting to keep it. I look at the value of the Boxster now like I look at my home. I am not going to sell it so it really doesn't matter its worth. Now, my kids may care! :)

Will do. There is a lot of information out there and no lack of opinions, brands and models. My garage is 34 feet wide and 26.5 feet deep (900 sf) and from the floor to the bottom of the trust is 8.9 feet. I will have to frame out an area of the trust to give me more height. I am also going to set the lift in the back portion of the garage so that it will not interfere with the garage door tracks or openers.

Nice garage. Mine started out pretty until I started working in it :) I've been wrenching on Porsche's on my Bendpak HD9 four post lift for many years now. An eleven foot ceiling works. I also have the sliding hydraulic bridge jack which can be useful. A four poster takes a big bite out of floor space because its 10 feet wide.
