Coil pack question

I am in the slow process of changing my plugs, plug tubes. I am a bit of a fanatic about cleaning everything before I re install it. MY coil packs look almost new and I have had the car almost 4 years....my long winded question is , My coil packs are marked 996...were the originals on a 2001 S marked 986 or 996....just trying to decide if they were changed out sometime in the past

You'll find lots of 996 part numbers on any Boxster.
Use a very bright light on perfectly cleaned coils to look for cracks. The cracks allow moisture in which causes rusting. If you catch it early, you can smear epoxy over the cracks to reseal them.
When you reconnect the harness to each coil, slide the rubber boot up the wiring so you can be sure the connector positively latches on to the coil. If you do not get a positive latch, the engine will eventually give you misfire codes.

Cleaned my thoroughly under a bright magnifying Illuminated (Think Lockheed 1970) lamp....they look like new

Generally all part numbers start with 996 unless the part only goes on a Boxster 986.

The stock coil packs for the Boxster are 996 part numbers.

There is a new version that has a much thicker body. Don't know is that is to help eliminate the cracking that happens, especially around the (2) fastening holes or to add spark. They start with 997 (997-602-107-02-M47)l
