What happened to my speedometer?

We had a very cold night recently and when I started the car, the digital speedometer developed the lines in the picture. They were not there the previous time I drove the car. Could simple cold have screwed up the LCD? Is this somehow fixable without replacing the LCD? I've never seen this before on any car I've owned. Any suggestions on fixing it are welcome. Thanks. |
The only fix is to replace.

Thanks. Would a cold night cause that? It was down to around 0. Normally the car is stored indoors for the winter, but it was a nice day a couple days prior and I took it out for a drive and my Cayenne was in the garage instead of the Boxster when the temperature dropped. Would those instructions work for a 2000 Boxster? The post you linked was titled "pre 2000".

Yes, the instructions apply to your gauges and the cold can do it. It seems to be fairly random, but incidents of this occurring do seem to be increasing as the cars get older.
