I built a 718
I built a 718 on Porsche's website as if I was a fan of the new 718 and I was in the market for one. I optioned it as if money savings wasn't an issue but put the options and colors I would like to have.

Fascinating.
So cheap I think I'll buy 2. (^note to self, keep dreaming for the next 8 years min.) |
Nice set up and color choice, I like the bi-xenon look over the led headlights though.

I like it in Mex blue. But those options are a slippery slope.
Personally I'd go for a stripped Cayman. White, Sport seats plus, 19 wheels, Sport Exhaust, Extended range fuel tank, and European delivery: $60,360 And with the ~$50k left over, I'd also buy a 2012 Boxster Spyder. |

Going good, waiting on my accounting class to start right now lol. Lots of reading and homework this semester but all business classes which is nice. Marketing, management, my advanced Econ, all very fun and I'll power though accounting. With a political science class as a pallet cleanser. |

How's English class?😜 |
Nice looking car, but no PCCB? I see Miami Blue, not Mexico Blue. I wonder what all those options would bring in resale value 2 or 3 years from now.

Wow...for that price, I'd go used F430!
|
The Porsche dealer in West Houston had that same color model on the showroom floor when I was there last week for parts. I must say it is a strikingly beautiful color on the 718. I don't recall all the options but the sticker was $99k.

44k in options.

I would be curious to know how many 718s will be sold with a price tag in excess of $100k. At $113k it has to be one of the most expensive four cylinder cars currently available new.
Oh yeah, I really like the color but not by $2.6k! |

HA, you guys keep on dreaming - $US113,000 = $A150,000.
A basic Boxster S here in Australia STARTS @ $US118,000 ($A157,000) stripped out with with no options, so adding on heliguy's few extras would bring the total to approx. $US135,000..... You don't want to know how much a new 911 S manual costs, but be prepared for your wallet to be relieved of a quarter of a million US dollars! |

Most of the cost comparisons assume taking it to a high end shop where the labor is ridiculously expensive. For example, there are a lot of items that need to be inspected and that labor quickly drives up the price whereas you can do this yourself for free instead of paying a shop $200 per hour to LOOK at your car. If you can DIY the work, the maintenance is actually quite affordable. |

The amount of Porsche parts that are general Bosch fanfare that you can get wholesale for the same price to fix a BMW or Porsche is far greater than that of a Ferrari. Much more crap on a Ferrari is in house or from more unique suppliers and it runs prices up on Maintanace even if you do it yourself. That being said though I'd rather a 981 spyder than a 100k 718. 3.8 flat 6 cannibalizes any reason to buy a 2.5 4. |
Even if you're savvy at sourcing parts and do you own work the expense of owning a ferrari is in following the ridiculous maintenance schedule. On a f430 for instance, a major engine service (tensioners, bearings, seals, gaskets etc) is supposed to be done every 3 years or 12.5k (or something to that effect). Clutches tend to last 15 to 20k max etc.

You guys are a rough crowd!
Personally, I'm not loving the new 718 body style. I think they lost the elegant and sexy lines. My teenage son describes the new style as a German attempt at being an American muscle car. Owwch!! I don't know if I'd go that far....but I'm kinda with him. I love the lines of the old I guess. |
I love the looks, I think it's smoother and smaller in appearance than the 981, a change in the right direction.
