Tire Selection for 987.2 Base Boxster - 2009 MY 17" Rims
Facing a problem getting the following size tire set in Michelin PS/2.
Front 205/55R17 Rim Offset 55mm Rim Size 7 In Rear 235/50ZR17 Rim Offset 40mm Rim Size 8.5 In Local tire stores can order for Continental - same one I have on my OE. Wider tires have more options if I go this route: Front 225/50R17 Rear 245/50R17 What are the risks of going this route? I am not sure if the options are N1 or N2 rated. Any advise is highly appreciated. Need to get tires replaced before inspections. SR |
Question - why are you having a problem getting those sizes? PS2's come in those sizes - I put those exact sizes on my 987.2 this fall and love them to bits. Way better than the Continentals IMO.
205/55 ZR17 and 235/50 ZR17 - total price was around a grand CAD. Michelin Pilot Sport PS2. Road noise was less and way more grip and stability. |

I would go with 225/45-17 front and 255/40-17 rear(or even 245/40)
the wider front gives you more grip and better balances the car Also look at Pilot Super Sports, its a better tire then PS/2 ******* fixed the size. Should be 225/45, not 225/34 fat fingered it |

Would these touch the fender inserts if turned lock to lock? I suppose since the outside diameter may not change, it will not impact either bump stops or any suspension components? Also, any change in the speedometer reading? My rims are standard 17" - 7 J X 17 H2 with 55 mm offset up front and 17" - 8.5 J X 17 H2 with 40 mm offset back rear. Thoughts? SR |

As far as speedo, well to my knowledge, all of our cars read a few MPH high anyway. Most 225/45 and 255/40 are the same diameter 255/40 is the factory size so there shouldn't be any speedo change over factory |
I had trouble finding Pilot SS in the size I wanted last year too. I think I could find the backs but not the 225s for the front.
