Rough starting this fall / Winter

My Boxster has always run like a mean watch, that being said I noticed this year on cold starts it is rough. Usually in the first 10 seconds it will almost stall and then catch backup....no codes. I do make it a habit of never racing the engine especially when cold and always give the engine about 20 seconds to idle up on cold starts.....at least this way I feel the oil is getting moved around better before placing a load on the drive train. I suppose it is time to remove and clean the MAF...any other suggestions ??

Thanks in Advance

Dwight

Dwight what year is your 986? I had this exact issue which was caused by a build up of carbon on the idle control valve, which was getting, "stuck" open. It's an easy fix, just clean the valve. This only applies to non e-gas 986's (pre-2000).

It could also be the MAF, or the car 'adjusting' to the colder temperature, or something else entirely. It wouldn't hurt to disconnect the battery and let the computer reset, and see if that helps the everything recalibrate to the colder climate.
