What are the odds.

I got in my license plate today for my (new to me) boxster. We went random and guess what the last three numbers of the plate are. 986. I am still in shock over the coincidence of that happening.

About 1 in a 1000.

Scrolled down to say this!

(although many states don't use 0, so it might be even lower odds!)

It looks like FL allows all 26 letter and 10 digits (at least according to the custom plate availability wizard) and in FL the last 3 positions of the plate include letters and numbers so in FL it would be 1 in (36 * 36 * 36) or 1 in 46,656 to get 986 as the last 3 characters of your plate. Then subtract a handful of disallowed combinations that make bad words, etc :)

Edit: Deleting my original post....OP is not in FLA.

Assuming they are in S. Carolina, the format for the current last three digits is strictly numerical, and they started with 101.

So the odds were approx 900-1. Congrats Jake!

Super rare indeed, but why are you congratulating me?

The post said 'we', so I assumed you were at the DMV as well. ;)

I wasn't able to go and neither was Jake, my parents had to pick it up. We're both pretty shocked by what I got haha

For anybody that is in FL and wants a custom plate, several combinations like this are available:

986 BOX
986BOXS
BOX 986

etc...
