V8 Boxster, should be interesting, go for it!!! It'll be pretty fast with all that torque available on tap. Post pics if you do it, and when your done post the video!!! Also, someone said that the 2.7 twin turbo bolts right up, that should also be pretty interesting, both engines would be great on the box!!! Good luck on what ever choice you make

The V8 is too tall to fit in there! Two things are certain...if it is possible it will cost mucho dinero and you will not have an operational top...or no top at all!
|
That is better than a "Gayman"!!!

OK. One of my friend is working on this:
Audi V6 twin turb 2.7 S4 engine with a BoxsterS 6 speed in a 914. If this V6 fits under the engine lid of a 914 (with room to spare) it will easily fit under the Boxster engine cover. You actually have a LOT of room above the engine lid with the top down. http://www.914club.com/bbs2/uploads/...1145080210.jpg B |
Here is a new CaymanS engine and trans out of the car. You can "estimate" the distance from the top of the tranny to the top of the intake manifold (use your eyecrometer)..LOL

I say go for it, and if youre going to do it.. do it right with the V8 turbo from the Turbo, Turbo S, or the GTS
-Power for the GTS comes from an upgraded 4.8 liter V8 that makes 405 horsepower at 6,500 rpm along with 369 lb-ft at 3,500 rpm, up 20 hp on the S -This time around, 520 hp wouldn't do, given that the face-lifted regular 2008 Cayenne Turbo saw a power boost from 450 hp to 500 hp. It only took a new intake system and a tweaked and remapped engine management system for the Turbo S to get another 50 hp for a total of 550 out of the new 4.8-liter, direct-injection, twin-turbo V-8. Torque escalates from 516 to an even loftier 553 lb-ft, available between 2250 and 4500 rpm. The result is phenomenal performance. zero to 60 mph takes a claimed 4.7 seconds, down 0.2 second from the regular Turbo. Top speed increases by 3 mph to 174, making the Cayenne Turbo S the fastest SUV available... AND IT WEIGHTS 5,600LBS!!! Imagine that engine (2009 Turbo S) In a Boxster weighing about 3100lbs..... and what do you think the 0-60 times and the top speed will be.... ??? It just makes me want to think about doing this conversion myself if at all possible... :D :D   |
"PepperBox"
Interesting concept, though. |
Can't be called anything with "box" in the name since a V8 is not a flat six.
How about: V8ster? or Vster? |
As a fan of many car makes and not to ruffle the purist feathers....in the name of proven performance and costs why not a LS1, LS2, LS3 or LS6 GM V8? Are the dimensions much different (I'm guessing the deck height will be taller) than Porsche or Audi V-8's? Tranny fitmant would probably be an issue, not to mention torque capacity of it. Just asking....... .

I say go for it.
I wouldn't want it so tight that I had to pull the motor to change sparkplugs and I think you'd have to address the issue of excess heat. But other than that I say go for it! |
I say go for it, but be warned the electronics issues involved in such a conversion will be very daunting, much much more so than a SBC.
|
Sounds like what you are doing is building a Boxster version of a Daytona Prototype car. And that sounds VERY cool. The DP cars are all mid-engined, and the Porsche motor is based on the Cayenne V8. Granted, the DP cars are 500HP and 2275LBS, but 400 HP and 2850lbs is not a bad street legal compromise.
And the possible names: 986 Daytona Boxster DP |
I vote for new model designation: 986.8
I want. |
Uhh, did everyone miss that this thread started in 06?
|
I cought that it was '06, but I was not around then to see it the first time. I have been wondering about the possibility of shoving one of those motors in my 944, but I would need one laying around first to try.

does anyone have the specs (dimensions) of the cayenne engine and the boxster engine bay .. or engine bay and trunk?
|
How about
"Boxsticles" or the "The Box Kahuna" or just the Porsche "Boohyah" Quote:

Talk is cheap. I say this does not happen.
