Help ID part in engine compartment

As this is my first post some introductions at in order. I recently bought a 2001 Boxster S. I was told it was upgraded to a 3.6, but I haven't been able to confirm this. It definitely have a Boxster engine, and not a 996 motor.

As I serviced the car today I noticed a bracket that use to hold some or other component. The bracket is located in the top right hand side (facing the front of the car) of the engine bay.

I attach a photo of the bracket.

What was here, and do I need it?http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1480511320.jpg

That is where the Secondary Air Pump mounts to.
It is an emissions devise that typically starts on Cold starts, runs for approximately 90 seconds to reduce emissions on a cold start.
I would be surprised there is no CEL. I think there is a CEL for a malfunction
I don't think not having it would effect engine performance

I don't think Porsche ever made a 3.6L for the Boxster.

They didn't. I have heard of people putting a 3.4 liter from a 911 in a boxster, but I don't recall a 3.6 conversion. I think the 3.6 engines started in the 997 series 911 except for the GT3.

996's had 3.6 starting in 2002

Oh my bad, I didn't realize that. Thanks for the correction

I have read somewhere, possibly here, that some engine rebuilders can increase the volume to 3.6 l.

Also isn't the SAI pump a US market thing. ROW didn't have one.

Thank you for all the replies.

I have just confirmed with the good people at L&N Engineering that they did an IMS ceramic bearing on my engine, amongst other work.

They confirmed having sold all the parts for a conversion from 3.2 to 3.6. The conversion was done by a local Porsche expert.

I may add that the cats were removed from the exhaust system.

KK2002S fortunately there are no CEL's
