Broken Tranny Mount at the Casing
So I was working on a reservoir replacement and had to remove the braces and shield to reconnect the hoses on the firewall. As soon as we got the shield off my buddy said "you should take a look at this". It looks as if the lower mounting point of the transmission mount has broken off on the drivers side. Has this happened to anyone else, what are my options?http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1480189509.jpg

It always helps if you turn the picture in the right direction. ;)

Before you repair anything, figure out why it broke? Otherwise it may keep happening. Is the bracket installed correctly ? Did the rubber mount collapse? Impact? The other side? The engine mount? |
Broken Tranny Mount
Gelbster, Small Block and Particlewave. Thanks for the quick replies and getting the orientation of my photo correct. From the link that Particlewave provided it looks like the exact same break, and I had a CV joint fail on that side. Also had a sagging front engine mount with I fixed with the inserts you can get from Pelican.
I think I'll hunt for a shop that can weld it up before I go for a swap. I've found a couple in the Bay Area that I'll reach out to. I'll update the post when I find a solution. |

Perhaps Woodie can set you up with a used one for the time being, until you can get a new pair of support mounts. |

Hopefully the guy that will be welding the tap have enough room with the tranny in place... |

Root cause for Broken Boss
I think that this was either broken or fractured when I bought this car 5 years ago. One of the first things I noticed was that there was an aftermarket cv and axle on this side of the car with a torn boot so I had it replaced with a factory part. So at one time in this car's life I would guess that there was a failure of a cv and axle, so I would say that it was impact. It will be welded tomorrow and a brace is being made to add extra support on this side, I am also replacing both transmission mounts since I am under the car. I'll post photos of the repair.

All credit goes to Ron Chuck Engineering in Redwood City, CA. He did the welding and had the idea for the bracket.
