Question 1st time Porsche owner today

Just drove home in my 2001 Boxter S triple black 54,000 miles
never thought i would buy a Porsche in my life but it was too nice to pass up.

Need advice on removal of ugly whale tail mod on the trunk lid would it be easier/cheaper to buy and replace entire lid or remove fill holes and repaint to bring back to the classic look.

I can not wait to get working on this car and enjoy it next summer

Welcome to the forum and to the realm of Porsche ownership. I don't think there is another car that is so fun to drive.

As others have said - "post your pics please"
and
+1 on the advice for contacting Woody on obtaining used parts.

Congrats and welcome, Jimmy. In addition to pics, tell us the story of why, when and how you came to acquire this fine auto.

Welcome to the madness. Great purchase.

As far as the trunk, I agree. It may be cheaper to just replace the lid than have body work done on it and repainted.

There are two GREAT sources out there for used Boxster parts. One is Woody; AKA itsnotanova, on this forum. Here is a link to his posting.

Another great source is qualityporscheparts on eBay. Here is a link where they have a couple black trunk lids listed for

Most excellent and welcome. But, you have to post a picture of the 'whale tail.' I am having a hard time even imagining this abomination.

Welcome! If you post pictures, there may be a 3rd option for fixing your "whale tail" .. Perhaps removing it and replacing it with something else that is more to your liking but covers the holes made for the whale tail, or maybe even reuses them!

Try ask someone with a black car that wants a duck tail if they would swap with you?

Do what you think looks good. Removing the spoiler will leave holes and that spoiler is part of an original Porsche aerokit. Those deep dish wheels add to the the black on black color and IMHO the original twists will date your car.

I think that spoiler 'duck' tail looks pretty cool. I am not into those wheels though.

Hey JIMMYC, there is a white tag attached to the underside of the front hood. On it are all of the options your Boxster came with. Post a photo of it and we'll decipher it for you.

Should look like this;
