Rear Spoiler 75 mph can you change the speed
Hi, I have seen a few posts of "spoiler" versus "wing". etc etc etc.
I would just like my spoiler to come up at around 55 or 60 instead of 75 mph. Is there a way to change or reprogram to have it come up at a different speed? |

Hi, No there isn't, you don't need it below 75. Hope this helps... Happy Motoring!... Jim'99 |
so do you know something about physics and porsche stability that the folks over in stuttgart dont? :D for poser effect - just engage the switch and its up all the time or just accelerate to 75 and slow down to 55 - it goes up at 75 but stays elevated as long as the car remains above 50 or 55mph.

From an electronics standpoint I'm sure you can buy a variable resistor or potentiometer and you could hook inline to the wire that runs the spoiler up and down and change the speed the computer sees.
Then again it's probalbly a digital signal and that won't work. Somebody who is an electrical wiz should have a look at the book and let us all know. I agree there isn't much need for it over that speed. If you wanna raise and lower it easily get the switch kit that moves it to your dash. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/986-996-BOXSTER-CARRERA-REAR-SPOILER-CONTROL-SWITCH-KIT_W0QQitemZ8072686510QQihZ019QQcategoryZ50459QQs sPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem |
thanks, I did not know there was a dashbaord switch, good info.

Sorry, I was going to ask if you know a part number for that dashboard switch

plus if you don't mind making up a wiring harness you can find the instruction on the spoiler switch on renntech.com they have a few threads there with the full instructions on how to install it. it's pretty easy from what I have seen. for $15 its worth to do it yourself vs 75 beens.

Why increase gas consumption and wind noise when you don't need it?

IIRC, it took me about 10 min. to install it and 7 of those were splicing into the Harness for the Switch Illumination. Not that I ever use it, I just hate having those Blanking Plugs all over the Dash and Console... Happy Motoring!... Jim'99 |

ya jim can you be my personal boxster mechanic....everytime i read your posts, i am amazed with all the knowlegde that you have about cars and the boxster.
i don't trust downtown porsche or phaff, everytime i go in there it feels like trial and error. is there a good porsche mechanic in toronto that you trust. i have been going over to this one race team by my house bartling motorsports, good guys. with lots of porsche racing experience and an ex boxster owner. anyone that you trust, other then yourself..........or do u have a shop. |

Most of my service is done by Switch European in Bradford (I live in Aurora) as the guy that owns it, Paul, is a buddy of mine for years. He has done lots of Porsche 911 stuff, some boxster but not much. He learns the diff on my car but no big deal really. Same stuff as the 996 for the most part. Switch European Auto Clinic 905-775-4237 150 Artesian Industrial Parkway, Bradford, ON L3Z 3G3 For major stuff I see Auto Select the owner is Franz he was part of the Porsche cup racing team in the 80's so he's really really good. Expensive but good. Auto Select Repair 1228 Gorham Newmarket, ON L3Y7V1 (905) 853-0442 I worked at an Import Performance shop for a few years and did a lot of really cool stuff and built some seriously high HP cars, but nothing porsche. Was all Talon, RX7 and Supra, Honda etc etc.. Most of my experience is from that stuff. |
