Who can repair cracked head?
 

Hey everyone, I'm in the middle of a tear down on a 2001 Boxster S with intermix. Found the standard issue crack on cyl 1 of the head. I've read a ton of things online about people having the head repaired. Is there a list of shops that have done this repair? I'm just trying to see who can do this and what is a reasonable cost? I saw one post from years ago that referenced Costa Mesa R&D and they mentioned about $500 to fix. I just called them today and they are now about $1500. Just trying to see who and how much... I was ok with $500, but $1500 might make me take a different direction. Thanks!

I had the opportunity to meet Len at the engine rebuilding class offered by Jake Rabby, and after seeing the work he does, this is the place that I will be sending my heads to within the next couple of months.

Thanks guys. I spoke to Len yesterday. It sounds like it is going to be more expensive than I originally expected so I am going to ponder this for a bit. I really appreciate Len's experience and will probably go with them if I go that route. Thanks again.

There must be many used ones lying around from motors that suffered from another mode of failure (if you can find one that didn't spray metal into the smaller cooling passages in the head.)
