Key missing circuit board ?

I have 2 keys one is fine. The other is missing the insides -circuit board /battery

Is it something that can be put in and reprogrammed ?

You would need to buy a new key ($150) and have the dealer add it to the CLU (I was quoted $350).

The board inside the key fob isn't programmable. You have to basically program the car to accept the codes that the board is sending (it's a one way kind of thing - fob --> car)

When you buy a key fob it comes with a tag that has some long code numbers on it that have to be programmed into the car by the dealer (or someone with a PIWIS or PST2). Without that tag all you have is a nice looking but useless key fob. I suppose the boards are small enough that if you had a couple you could make earrings out of them, or a pendant, broach, etc.

There's also a small glass tube inside the key fob that works with your cars immobilizer. The number on the tag that comes with the fob has to be programmed into the car to enable that too (I think - others chime in here and correct me if I'm wrong and I will edit and correct this).

If you buy a used key fob from ebay and it's missing the factory Porsche tag, you are basically buying it for the outer casing and/or any parts that you can salvage off the circuit board (battery holder, switches, etc).

Hope this helps.

Checked locally. New key fob needed for sure they can salvage the blade -$172- 150
** reprogram fobs ( the new & one that works now ) -$160 - 180

Too rich for me. I have one working key / fob. , one non functions fob but key works manually. & a Valet key.

Saving some $ ,for tires ;)

About 2 months ago I read an article about a guy who sells circuit board /battery kits. I remember the price was very reasonable You might find it using google.
