Dead battery? Won't start. Help
 

I have a 2002 Boxster I use as a daily driver. I recently had surgery and was grounded from driving (anything) by my doctor. Well, I'm ok to drive again, but the car won't start or turn over.

The Boxster was idle over two weeks, I've read about immobilizer issues. My added problem is the electronics in the key have been lost for months. I've just been getting in abs starting the car within 10 seconds (and gotten quite good at it).

At first, thinking this was a dead battery, I pulled off the fuse box cover and attempted the steps to open the hood. When jumper wires are attached, and the key turned, the alarm sounds and I still can't open the hood.

So it's the key - right? Or not.

I need to start the car to move it. Can anyone help?

There should be a manual release cable. Look up in the front of the passenger wheel well for a piano wire with a loop on the end. Some people relocate them to the front tow hook for easier access.

The wire to pull the release is on the pass side, hidden up behind the headlight

If your car is near enough to an electrical socket, you can use a trickle charger that plugs into your cigarette lighter socket to get enough power to open the frunk.

Maintainer won't work if fully discharged battery. Don't try to start using the charge thru the lighter charger as wires will fry. .

Just get the frunk open via the charger thru the lighter.. Then charge the battery.

If that fails, use the techniques here. And relocate the emergency cord to behind the bumper access panel so it is easier next time.

SUCCESS! We used Third Method (Eric adds) to open the frunk. From there it was just replacing the dead battery with a new one.
