After 10 years with my 1992 968 coupe (6 spd.), I sold it and bought a 2000 Boxster w/tip. and 11,000 miles so my wife could drive it also(she refused or was unable to learn how to use the clutch.) It's not quite as fast as the 968, but handles better and is much more refined. Also, I must admit to having a hoot with the steering wheel toggles when in auto. 4 questions that probably have been covered before:
I'm thinking of getting 2 fold up cup holders for either side of the center console;
what way have you folks been doing this? There doesn't seem to be any attachment points on the a/c louvers.
I'm trying to figure out if I have a rear window defogger. The switch is there to the right of the radio, but I can't tell how and if it's operating.
I have always had built in radar detectors(at some point I'm going to have to see what this baby will do.) but I'm now considering a cordless battery operated so I can use it in my other cars. PNI makes one I looked at. What's the battery life? Do they work o.k.?
I have the stereo with flip up cd and amp in the front. Sounds terrible! I'm thinking of adding the rear speakers in my rear storage unit. Any ideas for an inexpensive install?

I'm leaving 968.net and now joining this forum-looking forward to it. Thx.

Milist-
Congrats fellow bostonian. I don't have the answers to your ?'s but I would recommend try doing a search.

Porsche makes a cupholder module for the center console, if you can find one inexpensively. They still suck, but it's better than nothing.

MY 2000 boxsters have plastic rear windows and thus no defroster. The switch is there for the defroster in the hardtop.

The install for the rear speakers is fairly straightforward. If you already have the storage bins for the shelf directly behind your head (under the rollbar), then you're in luck. There's a company doing business on Ebay that sells speaker kits with upgraded speakers. IIRC it's about $250.

No opinion on battery-operated detectors. I use a Passport 8500 and love it.

Welcome, and good luck with the car!

1. Don't drink coffee in your sports car! When I was in Germany they made fun of us about this. "we take driving zeriously, coffe cup holders are purely an american invention"

2. rear speakers are good for top up driving, I tune them out and go full front only with the top down. I've got the full Bose package. Excellent sound, best of any roadster I've driven. The rear speakers would be a bottom of the list upgrade.

3. I have the V1 and switch between cars by merely unplugging it. Best radar detector I've seen or used. I can't overstate the beauty of those arrows. No more wondering if I have passed the threat, once I see the arrow pointing behind me I can exhale and get back on it immediately.

milist, I have a Escort Solo S2 and I love it ! I still think that the Valentine is better, but I believe the Escort is the best cordless available. Almost never faults, give more than adequate advance warning. I drive about 300 miles a week and have to replace the battery about every two months ( 2 AA ). Only complaint is I cannot hear it when the top is down on the freeway so I have to rely on the visuals, but other than that I am very pleased....
