What's this handle below the steering wheel?

Noticed this handle below the steering wheel.. what is it for?

My steering wheel module (but just the steering wheel itself but also the whole plastic thing it is attached to) seems slanted to the left in relation to the 'hole'

Is the handle related to this slantingof the steering wheel module?

Depending on the year of your car, it allows you to adjust your steering wheel. On my 97 you can only move the wheel in and out. No Tilt. If you shift the lever down, try pulling or pushing the wheel in line with the plane of the steering column. I have seen some cars where the wheel is frozen and won't budge at all.

Under no circumstances pull the handle you're referring to. This will cause the front of the car to detach itself and spin unceremoniously in to the verge. ;)

Please don't play with the handle below the steering wheel while driving! :eek:

I tried pushing the handle down according to the manual.. nothing shifts.. I didn't dare to force my way! I'll just live with the steering wheel tilt.

You must be referring to the Service Handle.

It causes the steering wheel to move forward to make room for ...Service... or whatever you like to get her to do that requires more room between the driver and the steering wheel...wink wink, nod nod, say no more. :cool:

Once the handle is down you give a good push in or pull out and voila, bobs your uncle.

Oh please don't tell us you've never done it and pretended you were driving an airplane!

The wheel can be very stiff if never moved, but it will move...with force. The previous owner of my car was convinced the wheel wasn't adjustable. It was. It just took some serious umph to break it free.

The handle converts the steering wheel into a yoke... once your up to maximum speed pull back on the yoke and the nose of the car will pitch up. I must say, its a lot of fun.... wait a second, am I getting my Boxster S mixed up with my Cessna 172 ummmm

Ejection seat.

Caution: it does not work 100% of the time.
