Buying a 1999 Box

I'm on the verge of making an offer on a 1999 US spec (imported to Spain), 986, 155k miles model. Have driven it, seems fine, looks straight, feels right...what should I be looking for....first Porsche after 10 years with excellent '91 BMW E30 325i cabby...all constructive input welcome.

Try using the search function David. This is a topic that has been covered dozens and dozens of times.

I recently did the same thing. '99 California car 148K miles. Bought it then a month later drove it 4K miles cross country. The things I would check would be:

verify all suspension bolts are tight. No rattling when going over bumps.
Check the oil, is it dark black or a nice amber, does it smell bad?
Let the car idle in warm weather for at least 20 minutes and see if the fans (both of them) come on.

It sounds like you've driven it. if you went over nasty roads you should have been able to hear all rattles and felt whether the suspension was working.

Once I was able to pull the front bumper I was very surprised the car didn't overheat as the radiators were full of junk.

Other than the clutch I don't think theres a lot else you can check.

Get permission to pull the oil filter and inspect for ferrous metal parts. Or see a Porsche mechanic and get a thorough pre-purchase inspection done at your expense as it will tell you what the car immediately needs. This is an old car. Not anew under warranty car. Maintenance is expected. Wonderful. Owned 2..

What are you going to pay...if you don't mind me asking. I have a 99 as well. Solid car.
