Is it true some Audi and VW gearboxes will fit on a 1998 2.5L Boxster?

Does anyone have some more info on this?

Many internal parts may be interchangeable but they are not (?) drop-in replacements. Good used 5 speed transmissions are not expensive and are easy to find. 6 speed(Getrag) is a different story.

It is an AUDI 012 transmission, gear ratios vary greatly in the A4s and Passats that used them and the Boxsters so you will have to do some research as some motor combo might work for whatever it is you are trying to do. And yes, the Audi/Passatt trans can be found for a $100 or so
