Things you might not know about your Boxster
This guy has done quite a nice video about 5 'secret' things you might not know about your Boxster.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0xf0XSxdMI Who has some more? |
-The front trunk fits a full size keg perfectly (http://986forum.com/forums/general-discussions/51048-what-i-did-my-afternoon-2.html)
-The rear trunk was specific designed to fit a set of golf clubs (you may have to take them out of the bag, but the bag and clubs both fit) -Phone Plug under the dash, is the best source for 12V switched 12V Constant, and Ground -The red clip is good for 10HP+ -Every 986 already has the mounts for the RTS (Roof Transport System), put a credit card under the tiny trim piece directly behind the door and in front of the clamshell and pry it up, and it will pop off revealing the b-pillar mount location. The a-pillar mount is harder to see, as it is under the a-pillar seal. |
another Boxster fact . . .
- The frunk and trunk can hold 3 cases of 24 beers each. That's 144 or one gross of beer. Ask me how I know? |

I think that guy is a bit excited about his car. Those are some fairly weak 'secrets' :)
Also, someone should let him know the biggest secret... It's pronounced "Porsch-uh" :D |
The biggest secret the gentleman failed to mention with the Boxster is....
If you are standing on the driver side where you would normally enter the vehicle, if you walk around (either clockwise or counterclockwise) to the directly opposite side of vehicle, at approximately one meter from the ground you will find (if you look closely enough), a small-ish simi-rectangular "panel" that is normally painted the same color as the car. Upon examination you will find that the tips of your fingers will fit on the underside of this panel, and if you apply (gently!) upwards pressure, you will find the "panel" is attached by some sort of mysterious lever mechanism to a larger section of the car. If you continue to pull upwards, a large section of the car will "pop" open; when it "pops", pull the section toward you and you will notice that the section is hinged (on the right side) to the vehicle. If you continue to pull towards you and allow the section to swing open at least 45 degrees, you will find this will enable a potential passenger access to the vehicle. Section that has been opened can be closed in much the same manner as that of the drivers side access point. This process can be repeated as many times as necessary to allow passenger access. Important note: be sure that section is full closed before driving vehicle, as many terrible accidents have happened while driving with section open, especially if opened at more than 45 degrees. :) |
I failed to mention in my previous post that information provided only applies to MY up to 2003, and for base Boxsters only. It cannot be verified to work as described on "S" models, or on the 987 or subsequent models.
"Oh, that's sarcasm...we don't get much of that around here. We thought we did once, but it just turned out to be irony" - Steve Martin |

If driving solo, at least three more cases can go on the passenger side, plus assorted six packs. New Glarus Brewing and/or Calgary & Wisconsin Breweries | Wisconsin Distillery | Minhas IMO, after multiple stocking runs to both, Minhas has better beer and better value, but New Glarus has higher brand recognition and "mystique". Anything special in Winnipeg to warrant a beer run from WI? DBear |

Can't comment on alcohol but the passenger seat fits 2 cheerleaders well. Two flexible boarding schools girls well. And two sorority girls well... Aswell!
Happy boxstering! |
Only women fit in the passenger seat.

I like that spoiler decal. Did you have a random place make it for you or did you get it from somewhere specific?

I can wind the windows up and down from the key on mine:

The gauge cluster displays can be activated without the key.
• Switch headlights ON • Press the illumination knob • Press the clock adjust knob |
The digital gauge displays can be switched from miles/MPH to kilometers/KPH.
• Turn the clock adjust knob CCW and hold for 5 seconds |
The climate control unit can display vehicle metrics/values.
• With the ignition on (or the engine running) press the 'windscreen vent' and 'recirculation' buttons simultaneously for about 5 seconds. • The left display (which normally shows climate control temperature) will switch to either a 'c-code' or its associated sensor reading. • If a sensor reading is showing, press the 'central dash vent' button to jump back to the 'c-code' selection. • Use the '+ and -' buttons under the left display (normally used to set climate control temperature) to scroll through the 'c-codes' until you get to one you need. • Press the 'central dash vent' button to display the associated value for the 'c-code'. • Use the 'central dash vent' button to switch between the 'c-code' and value displays. • Press the 'Auto' button to exit this hidden function and switch back to normal climate control functionality. •The known 'c-codes' and their associated meanings are as follows: 0c - ERL 1c - Oil Temp? 2c - Inside temp. Sensor mounted in the aspirator assembly at the side of the dash 3c - Outside temp. Sensor located inside the air inlet of the A/C unit * (see below) 4c - Outside temp. Sensor located in front grill of the radiator * (see below) 5c - Outside temp. (matches OBC outside temp display) 6c - Coolant temp. 7c - Footwell discharge temp. 8c - Sun sensor (dash top) 9c - Sun sensor 10c - Passenger compartment fan speed 11c - Passenger compartment fan voltage 12c - Temperature mix Flap command 1=COLD, 100=HOT 13c - Temperature mix Flap position 14c - Central Flap command 15c - Central Flap position 16c - Footwell/Defrost Flap command 17c - Footwell/Defrost Flap position 18c - Recirculation Valve command 1=OFF, 100=RECIRC 19c - Recirculation Valve position (feedback) 20c - Vehicle speed in kph, updating only once per second. (real speed, not speed+safety margin as in the speedometer) 21c - Engine RPM in hundreds. This too only updates once per second 22c - ? 23c - ? 24c - Sun sensor, exterior lights switch & panel lights control (term. 58 & 58d voltage) - used for A/C panel display illumination 25c - ? 26c - ? 27c - ? 28c - Fan speed? 29c - ? 30c - Engine run time in seconds (255 max.)(=0xff) 31c - Timing counter 32c - Displays test 33c - Software version? 34c - ? 35c - Outside temp. from inlet sensor (filtered?) 36c - temp? * - The data is fed to the Climatronic from the instrument cluster. When not moving, the instrument cluster OBC temp display retains it's last setting until moving. This is to prevent heat emanating from the radiator affecting the temperature sensor. The A/C unit uses the lower of the two outside air temp values in determining fresh-air temp. |
