Pioneer experts- Needing advice, is newer really better?

I have a pioneer AVH P5900DVD that is in my work truck. I think it cost about $1300 when I purchased it and had it installed. It's about 6 years old.

I'm about to replace the work truck and want to know if I should pull this head and install it in my 2001 boxster S or if I should just spend a few hundred dollars and buy a new Pioneer 3800BT which is dual din.

What I'm wondering is which unit is actually the better head unit. I have factory 4x40 hayes amp and also have an Alpine 4x75 amp that I could use in the boxster.

Just needing some advice. Don't want to "upgrade" to one of the new cheaper units if it's actually not really better.

BTW, I have the 2002 bluetooth module so my unit is fully bluetooth capable.

Thanks for looking.

I believe the newer Pioneer units are compatible with Apple Car Play. If I were in your situation I would check to see if you find that feature appeals to you. I think a double din unit would look better, but I may be biased on that issue because that's what I have. I think your AVH P5900DVD has a motorized screen and that will be blocking something in the Boxster center console.

I bought a refurbished unit when I installed my system and paid around $500. So, if you don't need the latest model, it won't be that expensive. I have a 6X40 amp from a 996 Cabriolet to power my system.

Here's a thread that contains information about my installation: http://986forum.com/forums/general-discussions/51283-does-anyone-know-vss-wire-02-bose.html

Good luck with your decision.
