congrats Jake. I have three boys in college right now. I'm full of good advice and short of money.

1. You GOT your high school diploma. You'll EARN your college degree.

2. 2 hours outside of class for every hour in and college and #1 will come true.

3. Whatever happens, its your responsibility. even when its not your fault.

4. Enjoy! Have the time of your life!

Jake - congratulations!

It's a big step towards your future and a big step up in responsibility.

I don't want to sound too much like Uncle Rick, but always give anything that you know isn't really right a second thought as to why you need to do it.

Learn a bunch. Expand your horizons. Don't be afraid to question what you know. Meet new and different people from outside your normal peer group.

Most of all - have fun!

Uncle Rick

Congrats Jake

My oldest graduated college in 4 years in May this year and started a job in his field (Geography / GIS) in June.
My youngest starts at U of Nevada Reno in 2 weeks

The best advise I can give is take advantage of everything college offers, work hard and play hard.

I have a feeling you will do very well at college and probably will have one of the few true sports cars on campus. Check and see if there is a sports car club. When I was in college we had one and the club didi autocrosses as well as some track days.

Keep us in the loop and don't forget your friends on 986forum.com

Thanks all! I got lucky on my room mate and am in a brand new dorm for this year!

As for a sports car club, Clemson actually has the largest on the east coast! They set up autocrosses in the parking lots, and I can't wait to join.

There is a student with an R8 and one with a Macan, but I'm hoping to beat the rest.

Good luck. And watch out for pick up trucks in the parking lot.

jsceash 08-13-2016 04:30 AM

Will they allow you to have the car at school? Most colleges won't give a car pass to a first year student that does not commute.

Congratulation!

BIGJake111 08-13-2016 05:12 AM

The boxster is here to stay and also will remain covered. Freshmen must stay on campus (minus a few fine print exceptions) and you're always welcome to bring your car! I even was able to get special permission to put my parking pass on the front windshield because the normal policy for convertibles is to place it on the rear bumper.

Great for you. Enjoy college:cool: Not too much of this:cheers:

Watch out for vandals. I only had a 3 Series Bimmer on campus, and it got keyed and broken into while parked on campus. May be worthwhile to get a hardtop. Have fun at college!

cool.
If you haven't done an AX, you will have a blast.
What tires do you have? You may need to get different tires to be competitive

Also, a Macan can be very formidable in AX. We had a guy running one in our club and he kicked ass.The biggest problem he had was getting tires. They don't make tires good fro AX and track in SUV sizes

I've got pilot super sports so they should do some work! And thankfully the lot I'm parked at is right by the campus police station and is a resident lot where most cars will remain parked for long periods so safety will hopefully come for the car.

It's only been a few days and I'm having a blast and can't wait for classes to start here very soon.

PSS is a really good street tire. Just Ok for autocross
YMMV

What College is that? Tigers? Forgive my ignorance but I'm from up North.

Its good to have a car at school.

Serves as an alternate place to study in peace when the dorm gets too rowdy.
I did some of my best cramming for exams parked at a small airport with a bucket of KFC and soda for the day.

Also serves as a place for romance

And when you need to disengage from academia for a while, its got music, and some nice twisty roads to realign your head now and then. Auto-X is just another bonus.

However, if your going to a party, park at least a block or two away, or better yet ride with someone else. Shyte happens and you don't want it to spoil your fun.

Oh, and if some kids in the cafeteria are wearing rain coats on a sunny day, get outa there right now. I've seen some bad food fights, think flying plates and utensils. Its not fun to be skewered with a flying fork or knife....those things are blunt and hurt like hell.

I really enjoyed my College days now and then between studying.

Clemson Tigers. Top 20 public university and ranked 12 by money magazine in the us! So far things are great and partying is very low on my list. The simple social time in the coed by room dorms is really fun though.
