Grrrrr.....random honking fix

Okay, trying to fix the intermittent honking on my 99. I have the o-rings to do the repair on the bracket, but for the life of me I can't do what is described as the easiest part....remove the two torx screws holding the airbag in place! It's loose....but not just "lifting out" as described in most of the DIY's. Also, are they Torx 27 or 30? Bentleys doesn't say, forums say 30 and Pelican says 27. I have turned and turned and turned when I feel like the screwdriver is in the head. Someone restore my sanity!

Torx 30. Make sure you are down in the actual socket.

As I recall, I used this DIY video to replace mine. Maybe you can glean something from it. I remember those screws being tight and troublesome to remove and replace. But the fix is going on a year ago and the horn is still working correctly. Good Luck.

Just replaced the Air Bag bracket on my 99, Torx 27 is correct

those don't come out. They're "captured" screws. You can probably wiggle the airbag out at this point (I hope you have the battery disconnected). As I mentioned in another horn thread, the o-rings didn't work for me so well. I fabricated my own with foam from pipe insulation. Good luck.

The plot thickens....okay I'll try both sizes again with a bit of shimmying. Thanks for the help gents.

On my 01 S the screws are T30

Just to close the loop on this. I tried the homemade fixes for the brackets disintegrated bushings. It didn't work. Ordered the new housing, installed it and everything works perfectly. Incidentally on my 99 the torx screws were T30. The problem I was having was I wasn't fully seated in the screw AND to break it loose I had to put vise grips on the handle of the Torx screwdriver provide appropriate leverage.

+1 on the tight. Mine were ridiculously tight. They were gooped up with blue loctite as I remember also.
