Darn Bumperettes

I went to go apply a light layer of Armor All to my fading bumperettes today, and it turned into a darn chore. One bumperette came loose via the Torx screw holding it into place with no problem, cleaned,Armor Alled, reinstalled no problem. The second bumperette on the driver side would not budge one bit when I tried to loosen it. I tried to loosen it for another 10 minutes but no luck. I finally decided to just clean and apply Armor All where I could. Does anyone have any secrets on how to loosen the torx holding the bumperette on?

Buy an impact driver (typically used on motorcycles). A few good whacks and I expect it will come loose without issue. There is no other way to remove the case screws on a motorcycle without butchering the fasteners. Similar application here.

Of course these days they are available as cordless power tools as well...

Hi,

An Impact Driver would probably work, but it wouldn't be my 1st choice. Consider buying a set of Male Torx Sockets (3/8 preferably). These would be more multi-purpose. You can attach an extension and Breaker Bar to it. Also, with a set, you can use them on any number of fasteners and you can get a Torque Wrench on them too. Maybe a better investment in the long run. Just my $0.02...

i took mine off with a metric allen wrench 5mm or 6mm if i can remember, never knew it had torx head on it. Try it, it might work, i use standard and metric allen wrenchs all the time to take off torx head bolts. If i were you, as soon as you get them taken off, have them body color painted so you wouldnt have to armor all all the time, and personally, i think they look much better. If not, i would go to your local hardware store and buy an bolt that has an allen wrench head on it if your going to take them on and off all the time.
