Ignition switch tumbler

I researched this but didn`t find what I needed.
Today I had the car out . Went to shut it off and when I turned the key it felt like the cyl was full of grease ? The key would`nt come out. I juked the wheel to get the steering lock to engage nothing. After fiddling with it came out. But the interior was still energized, radio on and would`nt turn off when I closed the door. I got out shut the door window drop worked but the door lock and trunk would`nt work on the fob.I had a key issue before but it was related to the tip and was mechanical and fixed. Did the cyl take a powder ?
