1999 986 key and starting issues

Hi, New the the forum and need some direction, something wrong with my key, 99 986, a friend changed my key battery for me and all of a sudden the car wont start!
It cranks over fine
When the ignition is on the dash board lights up.
It just wont fire.
Looks like something has fallen out of the key now that I look closer at it.. the little cylinder(i think it was a flashlight) is no longer there..

Your thoughts and input will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Might not be the key.My valet key is empty inside and it will start the car. Might be fuel pump relay.

If by 'little cylinder' you mean the small glass pill like thing normally tucked in one side...

...then you could be in trouble, it's an RFID transponder (...or similar, not sure exactly the tech) that transmits its unique ID to the ignition system when it's close to the lock. Without a known ID the car won't start.

Best bet would be to try and find it, otherwise I think you have to buy a new one and get the new one's ID programmed into the car at a dealer for some crazy Porsche fee.
