Anyone know what this is????

Hi all I've got an oil leak coming from what looks like a drain plug near the rear of the R/H exhaust manifold, its a 32mm socket size but its solid & wont turn so needs a new seal, I cant find this in the parts book.

That looks like the cam timing chain tensioner.

Cheers for that, so is it ok to give it a nip, or am I altering the tension on the cam chain?

Sorry, now I get it, theres a spring behind the bolt which applies the tension, I probably need the O-rings as well

Indeed a cam chain tensioner. Don't unscrew it unless your engine is locked at TDC. If you don't know what that means, don't unscrew it.

Yes, you can set the motor to TDC by turning the crank pulley until the mark on the pulley is aligned with the mark on the case, but you have to lock the crank and cams from turning. Youll need some special tools to lock down the engine.

If you dig into it, then just replace it with a new one. They have been updated over the years and a new one won't hurt. I did mine while doing the clutch and IMS work and it fixed a chain slap on startup. They are hydraulic tensioners so the spring is for startup cold until oil pressure comes up. Here's a pic of the old and new one on my engine:

Thanks for all replays, I will replace the full thing, have to get an indie to do it though, I've got no gear to lock the motor....there is conflicting opinion about this on pelican parts, one of the experts says you can just remove and replace while his colleague says best to lock the engine... What a pain it's a 2 minute job otherwise
