Question about plug and play 996 seats.

Hello guys, my first post.

I have a 2000 Boxster S that I am bringing back to its former glory. The stock seats are in pretty bad shape and I would like to replace them or get them re-upholstered.

For the price of re-upholstery, I can get a pair from out of a 996 that look pretty good. I have searched the forums and read that they fit but you should try to match up the power options to make them plug and play.

One thing thats not clear is the memory option. The seats I currently have are non memory, heated, 2 way power. The 996 seats I am looking at are heated, 2 way power, but the seller is unsure if they are memory or not. He said he doesnt have a way to check as the car is disassembled so he isnt sure.

I think my chances are good that these 2 way seats are plug and play with no wiring required. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Matt

I think you'll be fine. Even if they had been memory seats, if your Box doesn't have that feature, it will just go unused on the new seats. No one will ever know or be able to tell.

I am almost certain that the two-way power seats will not have a memory module and will be "plug and play."

I converted some two-way power seats to 8-way power and memory seats. The document is too big to upload on this forum, but you can find a pdf with information about the process here: Memory seats option - Rennlist Discussion Forums

In the document there are pictures showing the various components that comprise the memory and 8-way power system. There is a large black box under the driver's seat that houses a circuit board and connectors for the memory option. If the seats you are buying don't have that box, they aren't memory seats.

Thanks for the replies.

Here are some pics of the bottom of the seats and the connectors.

Think I look good for plug and play with my 2-way power seats? I don't see any big black box for a memory module.

They are definitely not memory seats. They look like they will be plug and play for the power seat back. I think I can also see the components for the seat heaters.

I would go ahead with the purchase if the seating surfaces are in good condition and the price is right.

Good luck with the purchase.
