Electric 986 for sale - NJ

Was going to add this to the 'found on CL' thread but thought it was interesting enough for it's own post. (i have no affiliation)

1999 Boxster electric conversion - $7500

some more details on his blog....pretty cool stuff, I'd just be leary of the cost to replace the batteries, as it's been sitting for two years.

Electric Boxster Conversion

This is what got me into Porsches to start with back in '08.

But the battery prices were through the roof -- so I ended up rebuilding the Boxster S engine -- and a after a peak of 9 Porsches -- I've trimmed down to 7.

Should have just bought the dang batteries -- or a Tesla Roadster -- either are looking pretty cheap at the moment....

M

Top Speed exhaust?

Rear cat delete?

Solar collector roof like an alternator?

What bearing does the electric motor use?

That's a good price

Hi,

i think that is really a good offer, especially if everything works fine. Also the LiIo accus getting cheaper.

Cool project. Check out the guy's blog for details.

Looks like he did this job properly. A test drive will reveal what condition it's in and what issues it may have. The electric throttle and its coordination with the brakes is something I'd inspect closely. If I were a prospective buyer, my main concern would be about documentation. The wiring diagram is obviously a critical element.

This is a really cool project but I would be extremely concerned about the battery pack. That is the most expensive part of the car.

The typical life for a lithium ion battery is around 3 years. Not using the batteries doesn't extend the life. If the car has sat unused for 2 years and it took 1 year to build, its hard to know how much battery life is left.

Each Sinopoly 180Ah Lithium battery costs around $225 new, so you're looking at $225 x 34 = $7,650 to replace the batteries.

Its interesting to note that the entire car is worth the price of a new battery pack.

It's been listed for sale in the classifieds on this board too since May 9th.
