Top, dash light does not go out?

My friend has an 01 and his top works perfect but the light will not go out. I searched the work manual and came up empty. I am guessing there is a stuck top switch somewhere? some ideas would be helpful Tkx.

I have the same problem. The most common answer on the Internet is to the hold the button down for a few seconds after the top is finished moving. I tried that and it didn't fix my problem. My top works perfectly but the light stays on. Maybe holding the button longer will work for you but it didn't for me

In a 99 there is sensor at the back under the clamshell I think that's the one that determines when is fully closed

Do you hold the button until the top motor stops running?

If the motor stops its because it has contacted the limit switch which shuts it down so you don't burn out the motor.

If the light is not going out after contacting the limit switch then you may have a broken or shorted line/connection from that sensor.

If you hear the motor straining but not stopping then its the limit switch itself.

You can fool the rear center clamshell switch by taking a small piece of cardboard and using painter's tape to affix it to the bottom of the clamshell so the switch depresses just a little more than if the cardboard wasn't there.

I did this and discovered what the culprit was and made an adjustment.

Can you show me a pic of the switch location as I cant find it in the work manual.?

I can't do this easily at the moment. But if you put your top up about half way, you will see the switch just inside the convertible top cover area just in front of the third brake light. It's about 2 inches long, black, and spring loaded.

I have sent all the info to my pal. If he cannot figure it all out I guess I will have a road trip and fix it. Thanks to all.jim
