Can Anyone Help In Nor Cal

Hi Guys

My son is taking after his old man and wants to get a Boxster.
This is his 1st car so we would love to get your opinion and help on this car.

- he know about the IMS - not done
- and getting a PPI
- needs tires

any other suggestions/comments you can offer to him.

My son is on a work term from university in Cupertino.
The car is located in Morgan Hill which he says is close to him.

We were hoping that there was somebody close by that could meet with my son and go over the car with him and give him some Porsche guidance.

I would love to be there to help him purchase his first car but since I'm a few miles away I'm hoping that someone will fill my shoes and help him out for me.

Cheers! Bart

Why is the airbag a different color than the steering wheel?! Almost looks like the bumper is a shade off of the rest of the car too. The yellow in the headlights look a different shade from each other.

Hello, Bart.

I think it will be worthwhile paying this guy to go do a PPI on the car:

Seat covers and dash cover also a red flag. Plus what Woody posted.

IMHO, this example was not particularly cared for during its life.

Just sayin'............

I'm local and (since I just became unemployed) have time to look at it in person.
I'm in Santa Clara.

You sure that's an '02? The speedo on mine is LCD, not orange. Mine's an S but I don't think that matters.

I'd be cautious with this one. Have Matt take a look at it, but be careful...

the Holistic approach....

A car like this (so many unknowns) needs the Holistic assessment approach...

What is that you ask...

It is total balanced look at a car, looking deep at it,
it's pluses and it's minuses.

Tires cost x so...
breaks =y so...

then look at Your excpectations/ needs....
then do the math.

tires in picture can tell a lot, check production code, it really old, maybe cracking is more about abuse of an old tire...

maybe get a ppi with an alignment check for spec???

good luck

Hope he has a good part time job as well since as we all know the operating/maintenance cost of a 986 is around $2k per year.

A PPI can either save you from a ticking time bomb or be used as a negotiating tool to get the price down to take care of current issues and concerns.

Definitely needs an experienced 986 guy to take a look, plus a Porsche experienced PPI.

Looks nice except for the dash and seat covers.
I would also take a careful look at the Vinyl back window.

Maintenance records would be useful as well.

Make sure you get 2 key and 1 with FOB at least.

A check with a Durametric to read the codes and over-revs would be nice as well
and to see if the VINs in the computer match the car.

Seems like there are plenty of storm damaged cars that are being bought for cheap and fixed up with assorted parts.

My caution light is on for this one. Possible signs of neglect/abuse.
