Does a OEm hardtop fit without anything on my 02 base
Im buying a hardtop for my base 2002 porsche. The car did not come with a hardtop originally and I am driving 3 hours away to pick it up and drive back with it on. Do I need anything to safely drive up with it?
The previous owner said the hardtop just clicks in to the oem car.... alex |
You'll need the not-so-cheap hard top "spinlocks". ;)

Yup, you're not going anywhere without these parts:

You should also review the instructions for installing the spinlocks. It is NOT something you're going to do in a couple of minutes. Read this article carefully: http://www.renntech.org/forums/topic/8854-installing-spinlocks/
|
See if the current owner is willing to part with the spinlocks on his car, if he still has it.

I may be wrong but I believe this is about the best price out there for new. I need to purchase for mine also just haven't pulled the trigger yet.

That Renntech article is good. When I installed mine I figured it would be easy and just jumped right in without any instructions. This tool from Lowes made it doable with the trim still installed, but slightly flexed to the side.

If he has the cover for the front header center latch, that would be a nice bonus too!

Let me add a question for folks that have done this - I have a hardtop but have yet to fit the spinlocks and bolts. I have Recaro Profi XL fixed back seats that are floor mounted and they are pretty far back. This is the only pic I have handy, but now both seats are the XL and mounted the same, in this pic I had the "regular" profi on the pax side.
I haven't started the install yet but I sure hope I don't have to remove the seats... http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1462557711.jpg That is my step-daughter Kathryn, 15 in this picture. |
