Thinking about selling my Boxster...
...and want to move up to a newer model Cayman. What would be a reasonable market price for a '98 black on black, 2.5, Tiptronic, 111k miles, new top, new brakes, fairly new Michelin Pilot Sport AS3 tires, very nice and clean, runs great, garage kept, but yellowed headlights? All original docs, clean carfax.

$7k...feeling generous. :)

Heres the thing I contemplated the same thing you are last year. I went and bought the Cayman with the intention of selling the boxster well guess what I still have it and now that's its spring the Cayman is actually the one in storage. The Cayman is better in every-way except one yep the top wont go down. :)

The reality is around $6K.
If you can find someone to write a check for $7K, cash it as fast as you can. :) |

Well that's disheartening, I just checked Kelley Blue book and my 99 is worth about $5K.
|
Checking local prices is a better measure. ;)
I'm not saying I could get it, but I saw several '99's this spring in the 80k-120k miles range being advertised in the high $9k's. If they actually sold for that, I don't know. Kinda doubt it... |
Here is a website that keeps track of Boxster price trends.
Porsche Boxster Price Trends - CarGurus Of course it doesn't break down the cars by mileage and features just by year of manufacturing. The listed prices are closer to 10k for early model 986s. Personally I wouldn't sell for under 10k. As a note, year over year listing of number of 986s for sale are down 20%. If that trend continues for another 5-10 years, there won't be many left for resale. |
Oh man, my 2001 S is only worth $13-14k usd Pretty much not worth selling at this point - try and save it for another 10 years and give the classic to my son!
|
Man I think the same thoughts. My Box has gone from Daily to Garage Queen. I think about another Porsche but that would be changing my current Garage Queen for another one.
At this rate I won't hit 100k for another 4-5 years(Maybe). It will be 19-20 years old then. At least sitting in the garage, the body is staying in great shape. |

Location can make a difference of a couple thousand dollars for a particular car.
|
Checking local listings is one thing finding out if the cars are actually selling and selling for the listed price is another. Watch eBay for listings close to you and follow the auction to see if the car sells.
