OBC hack in a 2003?

Hi guys,

I've been reading around the net about the OBC hack. I want my outside temp activated...

I see loads of DIY's for the 97-01's, but does anyone know if the same goes for 02-04 or did they change it for those model years?

Cheers!

Looks like the answer for MY2003 is, it depends on which firmware your instrument cluster has. You will need a switch or fourth stalk for an '03.

If you seek out a four stalk switch you can use either part number 996 613 219 00 or 996 613 219 10. The first one has a gloss finish for 1997 to 2001 Boxsters and 996s and the second one has a matte finish that came on 2002 to 2004 Boxsters and 996s.

I'm aiming for the switch version both for the easier install but also since i'm kinda tall i'm afraid the two added stalks will be in the way for my legs :P

I'm doing this too but I'm adding the cruise control along with it.

Stalks, pre-made wires to go from the stalks to the back of the clocks (they're on eBay), and then just have someone to enable it. That's it.

But I want the dot-matrix clocks, so I'll be getting those too along with mileage matching to make sure they're the same. That might be something to look into if you haven't already got them

Yeah, the dot-matrix sure would be nice.

I'm on a "don't eat all candy at once" kind of mindset at the moment though. My plan is to save some fun DIY's for later aswell, but that might be a good winter project next year.

Apparently the dot matrix clocks don't need the OBC enabling, so instead of spending money on enabling it, you'd be spending money on clocks instead. But then you'd have to mileage match, so it would be a little more

I enabled it on my '04. I purchased a four-stalk unit off of eBay and took the OBC stalk to bolt on to mine. I had purchased the OBC cable from Pdwight (excellent work, BTW), and after connecting everything I used my Durametric to enable it. Having the fuel efficiency figures, range, and temperature sure is nice. Makes you wonder why Porsche (and the original owner) were so cheap to not get this originally.

That's my thoughts exactly!

I'll find the part number for the dot matrix clocks later in case you want them
