Those new SLK350 are a totally different breed. Assuming all things are equal; driver skills, no modifications etc.

The SLK350 will beat a 2.5 boxster ...

See if you can get on "Pinks" on Speed TV. Your title against his, best two out of three runs.
Could be interesting.

Quick! -To the autocross!

Maybe it could beat it in a drag race, but I'm not so sure about it beating you on a track. Invite your friend to an autocross! If you've both never done it, it would be a great (and fun) learning experience, as well as an answer to your query.

Yes, but I don't think a CLK350 would, which is what blkboxster is talking about. Same engine as the SLK, but more than six hundred lbs. heavier.

The published 0-60 times are the same (around 6.7 seconds), but assuming blkboxster is driving a manual and rows pretty well, he should beat the CLK which only comes in an automatic (and the manual shifting feature doesn't add much).

I've found the seven speed automatic tranny to be just "okay" on short sprints, but don't race him to more than sixty, as his acceleration in higher gears will be decidedly better than yours due to the torque differential. On a track, I think you'd have no problem as you'll brake better than him, turn better than him, and accelerate out of a turn better.

.

oh my bad, if its a CLK, i am sure the boxster has hell lot more advantages in terms of weight to power ratio and the suspensions as well as handling !

I have the E320 which is similar in engine size and HP. The Box is much lighter, agile and quicker.

I got to believe the new clk 350 coupes will to do 0-60 in the low 6's with almost 270 hp and the 7 speed auto trans. while the 2.5 Boxster's do 0-60 in high 6's. But get them going throught the canyons and the boxster will easily take the clk.
