Does a hardtop fit in the back of a Toyota FJ Cruiser
The answer is no...
I bought a hardtop and sent my son down to get it (5-6 hr round trip) in my Toyota FJ Cruiser. I should have measured. Once he got down there, it didn't fit. Luckily there is a uhaul place 1 mile away so he is going to rent a small trailer, and also buy another hitch (because my hitch is in the garage and not in the back with the jack like it should be) Sigh... My luck they will only have the giant size.... |
They do fit in the bed of a f150. However I will say that the best way to transport a hardtop is on a boxster itself.

He wanted to take the Boxster but it is up on jack stands getting some work and also I don't have the spinlocks yet... :) Also his legs are too short and my seats are fixed with no sliders... :)
|
Well best of luck that it gets back to you in one piece.
Gets me wondering, what's faster, boxster with or boxster without hardtop. With is added weight up high but possibly a little more stiff and better aerodynamics. |
He is on the way back... sans hardtop - he couldn't find a trailer to rent or a hitch. He has friends down there so the trip wasn't a bust and he is going back next Tuesday in my elderly Tacoma to get it...
|
Best of hopes that the Tacoma will fit the hardtop. It's a tight squeeze in a f150.

I think I will send him down with several moving blankets, some tape, and straps. I'll have him cover the hardtop with moving blankets and tape them on, then place it in the back, and if it is angled some that's ok. Then he will strap it in somehow. We'll figure out something :)
Maybe I will just hurry up and get my Boxster back on the road and go get it with that :) |
I strapped my hardtop onto the roof of my Kia Rondo. Doggystyle.

The hardtops aren't small, I doubt they will fit inside anything other than a van or truck bed. The (rough) dimensions for future reference: 48"L x 59"W x 15"H

This hardtop is in Tampa, Fl, if anybody is coming from there north on i-75 passing through lake city FL and wants to carry a hard top along the way, I would be very grateful ;)

I got a hardtop and mtb in the back of my Honda element (seats folded u)!
|
Did he, by any chance, measure the top so that he could see if if fits before another fruitless drive????
My kid would not have, he would have kept driving back and forth with different cars/trucks. |
Fits in a Honda Pilot.

And I have spinlocks etc. inbound now so maybe I will just go get it with the Boxster... |
I brought mine home in the bed of a Silverado, propped over a couch I was also hauling. I covered the hardtop with blankets and laid it across the couch then strapped everything down. No problem on the PA Turnpike for 4 hours. I am sure your son could pick up an old couch somewhere then just leave it in the back of your pickup when he's done hauling the hardtop. That's what my son would do.

He is on the way down to get it right now in my Tacoma, so we will see :) He has a ton of moving blankets, duct tape, straps, and a big rubber pad that used to go under a big area rug. So we will see what comes back :)
