New Z06 on Top Gear

Has anybody else seen the C6 Z06 episode yet?

0-175mph... in FIFTH GEAR ONLY!!!

INCREDIBLY SURPRISING, they seemed to like it -on the track anyway. "Rubbish" for a daily driver.

Anyway, enjoy the first episode of the new season here (and learn about the largest speeding ticket ever recorded [in TEXAS no less])

(I'll post the Z06 episode if I come across it.)

You can get all your Top Gear Episodes from this site

http://www.finalgear.com/shows/topgear/

They are in torrents so you will need Bit Lord or Azaurs etc to download them. They all come in AVI format. They are about 350mb a pop and in 16:9 format so buy yourself a Divx compatiable DVD player and you can watch them on your TV in the proper format (assuming you have a 16:9 tv) otherwise they will have the black bars on the top and bottom. All european TV is that format, were just way behind.

The quality is surprisingly good for downloaded TV. They have the episodes right up to the most recent showed last week which is the Z06 episode. BBS is public Television so these are not an illegal download to those worried about that. There is no advertising on BBC between some of the shows so it's not like your ripping anything off either. They have right back to Season 3 which is the end of 2003. I have from Season 1 forward with Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond from 2001 if anybody wants those I can tell you how to find them as well. I have every episode from Season 1 episode 1 going forward right till last weeks. You can get 85% of them from this site.

Quite a few of them have Boxster or Porsche material in them which is quite interesting. They hate the boxster btw, say its only there for guys who can't afford a 911 etc.. Pretty funny tho cause it beat the Z4 and S2000 around their track.

Cheers!

Ah, playing the "brother in-law's neghbor" card...
I've got this... (which makes nothing concrete) but 242 beats the 205.

I would think for either case tickets wouldn't be a part of the equation. Rather jail time would be more suitable.

I downloaded the Top Gear Episode, and it's the 2nd of the new season, not the first if I'm not mistaken. Oddly enough, I'm north of London for the next week at a conference and can probably catch the next episode live on BBC. I might try to do that.

They loved the new Corvette for the track... comparing it to a Ferrari and saying it's just as good a car for 100,000 british pounds LESS.

Then they said they absolutely HATED the car as a daily driver... radio sucks, satnav sucks, interior sucks... actually said he's rather have bird flu that the new Z06 as a daily driver for all this plus the lousy ride quality, messing up his back going over the smallest of bumps.

I think it would be a blast to have one as a track day toy or a weekend vehicle. I still think a Boxster is a far more well-balanced daily driver though.

Clarkson has always been anti-Porsche - even when he gives a glowing review he always finds a reason to bash them right at the end - it's part of his style. Part of it though seems to be just stirring his fellow presenters - James May drives an Arctic Silver Boxster S (you can see it in the background of the convertible people mover article, when they carry the roof outside). Given the hard time James & Richard give Jeremy about his car failures (especially the running joke about his Ford GT) it's no suprise he gives some back about the Boxster...

Not to mention that he took some jabs at the Cayman cos his producer bought one 'for investment reasons'. Still, I've seen some glowing reviews from him about the 911 and the Carrera GT

986Jim 05-22-2006 07:58 AM

They are not anti-Porsche really. They are just more anti Boxster because it's not a real Porsche, which is what the 911 and Carerra GT are. They don't like the Cayman or Cayenne either, can't say I blame them really. The cayman is super ugly from the back ughhhh...

Funny tho when they put it up against the Z4 and S2000 the Porsche was the fastest around the track, and that was a Base non S model.

Just to supplement the very helpful information 986Jim provided, you'll most likely have trouble playing .avi files in Windows Media Player or Quicktime, due to Codecs issues (which can be corrected). However, I would just download "VLC Media Player", which is free from numerous sources on the web, if you want to watch it on your computer. I agree that a 16:9 aspect computer monitor improves the viewing experience.

Did anyone see the Boxster S vs SLK55 AMG episode where Clarkson drove both cars while people shot at him with the military's version of laser-tag?

Even though he said the Boxster handled nicer, had a quicker time through the course, and got him tagged fewer times than the SLK, he'd still rather have the SLK.

Clarkson's a HP guy, not a handling guy. You can see it in his choice of cars.

I saw that one. Clarkson actually owns an SLK too.

Pick up an LG LDA-531 dvd player. It's very easy to convert to region free so you can play any region and downloaded DVD's (not that we do that) and also full DIVX compatiability so you can watch .AVI and MPG files on the dvd player. It also plays MP3 on CD and DVD and JPG DVD's so you can view photo's on it. Basically it will read any damn thing you put on the disc which is great. Most dvd players dont do that.

Also it will up-convert to 480p/720p/1080i through both HDMI and Component out cables which is also quite rare, for you HD guys this is a dream come true.

I watch them all on my Plasma TV in proper 16:9 and it's fantastic just like watching normal HDTV, the quality is quite good. Nothing worse than sitting in front of your computer vs. the couch with a beer.

I don't know about that Jim, my computer monitor is 16:9 and umm...pretty big.

But I am suprised you're not watching the vids on your cell phone or your Phatbox. :D

Can I just tell ya that the first three Top Gears have been some of the funniest I can remember? The car-boat conversion was pretty amusing. I thought Clarson's Toyboata was pretty "slick".
