Boxster S Yes or No ?

I've got this guy selling a 2000 Boxster, he says its an S but it has a 2.7 and a 5 speed stick. I questioned him and he's not budging and is asking me to stop harassing him ? I'm just trying to help.
Makes no sense to me

I have never heard of a Boxster S with a 2.7 5 speed... doesn't make sense to me. If this guy is asking you to 'stop harassing' him it sounds way to fishy to me... what seller in the right mind would talk to a potential buyer like that... extra fishy bro... run away..... FAST. Pay extra for peace of mind or it will end up to haunt you and cost you more in the future.

That listing is a load of BS
that car, while looking very nice is NOT a Boxster S. It is a base model that some putz badged as an S
No dealer would would tell someone that the a base with a sport package is an S
Also a load of BS on IMSB failure rate and info. Recall???

Run, don't walk away

apswater 04-11-2016 07:23 AM

He is scamming... they all had 6 speeds and a 3.2. Also look for the badging.. some pieces are too expensive to fake but with the engine and 5 speed it is a base car. You can also decode the vin but why bother.

alm001 04-11-2016 07:32 AM

Guy got scammed by his "Dealer".

Build sheet is also available showing "P09" Sport package" with all leather which, according to my dealer, makes this an "S" model as it is labeled; apparently not all "S" models had the 3.2L engine(?).

rexcramer 04-11-2016 08:23 AM

Look for the simple things

Don't all 'S' models have white face clusters and red calipers? Try and get the VIN and run it through a decoder. I suppose it could have a smaller engine and five speed trans, if the original motor/trans exploded and was replaced. An unbiased/independent PPI would certainly clear this up and certainly be advised. Proceed with caution.

jb92563 04-11-2016 08:32 AM

If it has a 3.2l, 6 speed transmission, white dials and the VIN digit match the S model then is an S.

If not then its BS and I would run from that one as the seller is not ethical.

CoBeerToad 04-11-2016 08:54 AM

I love at the bottom he lists it as "mint condition", then goes on to list things that are broken or missing.

Heiko 04-11-2016 08:57 AM

Non-S exhaust tip, non-S cluster, non-S dash trim in console, doesn't have the 3rd cooler in center on front spoiler, doesn't have S-Brakes.... oh wait its not an S.... LOL

coolbreeze551 04-11-2016 09:04 AM

Scam for sure, all of the S parts look like non-S parts. I say keep 'harassing' him which I am assuming is you're just asking him questions that he doesn't want or know how to answer until he changes the ad.

Clusters and calipers are very easily updated to look just like a S. Same for the exhaust.

ALWAYS run the VIN when looking at buying a car and check the options codes under the front hood to verify that the car has everything that the factory said it did when it was built.

Dubaday 04-11-2016 09:25 AM

He did a horrible job imitating an S, not that I know anything about that ;)
I say keep on harrassing!

rjh986 04-11-2016 10:01 AM

My debadged S is the direct opposite of his.

BIGJake111 04-11-2016 10:09 AM

Wrong vin, missing a radiator, wrong exhaust, I think wrong rims, no silver trim on doors, wrong engine, wrong transmission, missing batwing next to gear shift, wrong steering wheel, wrong brake rotors, wrong brake calipers.

Sometimes these botch jobs are hard to spot due to changing the exhuast and being a tip and on one occasion I saw someone even changed the front bumper, but this one is an easy spot.

Seller is a scammer or deeply mistaken. Report the post and carry about your day, do not buy his car.

Tell him you will pass but that you outed him on the 986Forum.

Giller 04-11-2016 01:10 PM

Maybe it's my eyes, but I don't see anywhere in the ad where it states it's an 'S' model. Other than in the picture where someone glued an 'S' on it.....

Perfectlap 04-11-2016 01:21 PM

Tell him you are in Nigeria and can pay in Italian Lira.

Because most likely that is where the car is located.

Ya nowhere in the ad does he state it's an "S". The VIN is WP0CA2983YU622224

The fifth digit in the VIN is the tell-tale sign. A=2.5 or 2.7, B=3.2. They did NOT put any smaller engines in an S.
