Front License Plate
While living on the Illinois / Indiana border I never bothered with installing the front plate. I lived in Illinois (plate required), but did 95% of my driving in Indiana (no plate required). A few months ago, I moved about 60 miles east so I'm smack in the middle of plate required land.
I've decided to not be an outlaw anymore and use my powers for good. For those of you that have front plates or are in the know, what is the recommended method for installing a front plate so I don't jack up the front bumper any more than it already is. |
Use a plate mount that attaches to your tow hook (eye). Here is one brand that is available: US Mill Works - Porsche Front License Plate Brackets
|
The dealer sells the stock mount for less than $20. The last one I bought a few years back was around $12.

Do you mean 60 miles west? 60 miles east would out you smack in northern indiana...
I'm actually considering getting rid of mine. I'll pm you... |
I just bought the front plate mounting kit from Pelican. It had everything needed to become a legal operator of a motor vehicle (as far as the front plate goes).

I think I'm sold on the tow hook mount. I like the idea of pulling the plate off to wash. I know I can just remove two screws and accomplish the same thing, but because that does not seem as fun, I'll never do that.

I recently added my front plate after not having one for years. The dealership had the plate mounting piece and gave me some screws too. Sorry, I do not have the part number handy. The part was between 20-25 dollars. Just be sure the screws do not protrude into the front bumper. The plate flexes while you putting pressure on the screws and if you are not careful the points will poke into the bumper.
