Steering Column Clunk

Hi,

I have been battling an irritating clunk on my 98 Boxster that refuses go away. The vehicle now has all new suspension parts front and rear , new brakes, new tires, tracking done at the dealership, but the problem persists. The best way for me to describe is a clunk (metal on metal) in the steering column. My question to the fellow members here is ,are there any bushings in the steering column that are prone to failure?. I have spent some time on the web searching for this and not coming up with anything specific. Also, attaching some pictures based on my research, is the part in pic#1 the possible culprit.

There's a plastic sleeve where the column goes through the firewall that is known to go bad or fall out

Is it difficult to fix?

I've never replaced one but it looks like it might be a PIA.
