986 vs 987

Hey all,
Looking at a late 986s or early 987s...Everything I've read online points to the 987 being better built, stiffer and just nicer overall.
Prices on the 05-06-07 987's are coming down now, thought I'd ask here, why would you suggest a 986 over a 987 at a similar price ? Has anybody done a V8 swap in a 987 ?

Thanks, any comments/suggestions/input is appreciated !!
