Newbie question

Hi Guys,

Had my 01 Boxster for almost a year, loving the handling (besides squeaky suspension when I go over speed bumps, need to replace). Wondering if you could help me with a few questions.

1.
Basically my light only turns on when I click the right button on the right. I did buy a dome light bulb but haven't installed it yet.

2. Can anyone tell me the name of this part or how to find it (the small cover). I need one for the drivers side

Thank you

The top circled items are the alien eyes that cover the motion sensors for the alarm. Functionally there is no problem with not having the cover cover but if aesthetically it bothers you then the part of the dealer is pretty cheap, I believe less than 10 bucks.

In the second photo the piece you are holding is likily something that comes with the whole cowl. You may want to check with a dismantler. Since it's such a small piece their may be a few folks on this site that can help and mail both the cowl piece and the alien eyes to you.

Cowel bolt covers

Those little covers do not come with the cowl. I go to auto atlanta to use the part diagrams on there web site. Very easy to use, if I can do it anyone can. When I buy parts I first try itsnotanova on here.(woody) If he has it and he thinks its feasible he sends it CHEAP . In the instance of the cowl I called Woody and he said his are to brittle and told me to buy new. 135 at the porsche dealership....it did not come with the covers you want.

You can find all of the part numbers you need and order from Porsche, or one of the online part suppliers. I like ECS Tuning or Sunset Imports.

No you aren't missing anything in your first picture (except the covers), the cool sensor cluster is only on one side, the other side circled should just look like yours.

The light has 3 rocker positions, on, off, and on with doors open. It's pretty easy to take that whole assembly out (just those 2 torx screws you can see left and right of the sensors) and check for loose connections etc.

Thanks everyone. I did order Cowl Panel Plastic Cap from 5150 Motorsports ($8 with shipping). Instead of painting it grey, I had a suggestion to use turtle wax trim restorer. Will it take it down to primer?
