5 speed shift shaft seal

My shift shaft seal is leaking on my 5 speed transmission. Is this a simple seal replacement or is it the same nightmare as the 6 speed leak?

I found this part number, 012301457. Will replacing this fix the problem?

Thanks

A shift lever leak is a shift lever leak. Pull trans. I have lots of pics. There is a oil seal outside the trans that actually goes bad after too much wear on that bearing.

In looking at the transmission diagrams, it looks like there is a bushing for the shaft that can only be replaced if you pull the tail housing and replace from the inside. And the seal is replaced from the outside.

Is this correct?

Is it normal for the bushing to wear out and need to be replaced or is it more typical that only the seal has fails and needs to be replaced?

Thanks

Bearing and seal are pressed in from the outside. The shift lever is held in place by a clip inside.

Depends on how much slack there is in the current bearing. May indicate city driving lots of shifting. Seems to be a common problem.

Mine was 350 for bearing and seal. I did the rest. You'll need a rental or another car, that's for sure. Only other option is a new $950 gear box case.

OK. Thanks for the information.

@ksjohn Did you replace this seal successfully? I'm having the same issue.
