996 Gauge conversion woes..

Hello All,

Went to my local Porsche guys with a PIWIS to reprogram my DME and instrument cluster to get my 996 gas gauge and radio working. I've got an '03 Boxster S and put in a '02 style gauge cluster.. Seems to be from a C4 because the gas gauge is about 1/4 tank shy... all works but the radio is in protect mode, and my gas gauge is off.

So, anyway, we go through the procedure to recode the dme to a 911.. and that works fine, but when we try to look at the cluster, the header says we need to do a full scan to change it. We tried every way from Sunday and I can't access the instrament cluster. I can see everything but the inst. cluster.

Has anyone run into this before????

Thanks,

...Joe

Joe,

You need to enter Piwis scanning a 996, the cluster is a different model (I.e. K27 instead of K21) and is not listed on the 986 'official' alternatives, reason why you probably get a question mark by the cluster when doing a full scan.

Jones.
