Matchbox car sized wheels still look ridiculous on a roadster.

Is that HAL 9000 taking a nap in the center intake?

JayG 01-27-2016 02:38 PM

I disagree.
I think it is beautiful

Particlewave!!!, I didn't know you were acquainted with my lovely Mother-in-law.

particlewave 01-27-2016 03:28 PM

Yeeeehaw! :D

Ok, back to the 718. I'll quit bashing :p

imari 01-27-2016 03:43 PM

Feel free to bash - some of us feel the same!

Entirely uninspiring. Remedial. Guaranteed to offend no one. A very weak mid-model update.

It's a good thing that no one can see the four-cylinder ecoboost engine. It brings a tear to my eye just thinking about it... (sniff, ... sniff)

The only thing that really bothers me is that they don't gush in their press release about the car being lighter.

This rename and downsize of engine displacement was a great opportunity to lower the cars weight but it seems that they did not do so, at least not enough to brag about it in the marketing mix.

Xpit77 01-28-2016 03:34 AM

My old boss had a Lambo almost the same colour. We called it **************** brindle brown. The car looks a bit rice to me.

CHRISP357 01-28-2016 03:44 AM

I think it's a beautiful machine but I can't yet get too excited over that turbo four. Of course I used to think only a v8 could make enough power so we'll see!

tomonomics 01-28-2016 04:22 AM

I like it a lot, at first glance looks better/smoother than the 981, and I really like the new interior with the 918 steering wheel. Not a fan of the black section below the spoiler, including the PORSCHE logo. I just went into the configurator on the website and there is no option for Porsche-delete, just the 718 and Boxster model-delete. However, it still shows 18" wheels (press release said 19" were standard), so maybe it will be updated in the coming days.

Also no option for sport exhaust. I'll reserve judgment on the sound of the flat four until I'm sitting two feet in front of the intake with the pedal to the floor.

VGM911 01-28-2016 04:42 AM

My BMW 228xi has a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 240 hp....and it's rated at 0-60 in 5 seconds.

I had reservations about BMW's decision to begin utilizing a 4-cylinder in place of their 6-cylinder engine, which was devine, in my opinion (good horsepower, good torque, and oh so smooth). However, my experience with the 228 has been more than satisfactory and has restored my faith in BMW's decision makers.

I wouldn't expect anything less from Porsche's decision makers, so rather than panic now, let's wait until the new Boxster/Cayman cars are introduced and tested by the car magazines. I'm guessing that they'll like both the 300 hp four in the base, and the 350 hp in the S.

For now I'll have to jump in the "I like it" group for the forever love of the roadster. It does makes it hard to judge the attitude of the car by only looking at Porsche neutral renderings. I'll wait until I actually see one in real life or better, test-drive one to come down to a conclusion.

Certainly want another Porsche roaster in the future and this one might just be in available at my price range for when I'll be looking at buying (3-4 years from now min. sadly)

There is a real shot, does look completely different. Spy shot I understand but you get the idea

I agree with the tire size being too much for the car - I disagree with the lazy time. It's a Boxster. It looks like a Boxster. The lines remain very similar, the concept the same.....

The 911's been the same design for, well, forever it seems.

A great car is a great car - which I've always felt the Boxster was/is. So why do anything dramatic?

JayG 01-28-2016 06:08 AM

It makes my 986 look like a classic

Wait a minute, it is a classic :D

I got a Ford Escape with a turbo 4 that does 240 horsepower. It's snappy, but it doesn't sound like anything to behold. I get that this motor will have a Porsche twist, I just cannot get over the loss of that flat 6 whine.

I just hope these cars don't skyrocket the prices of the 997, 991. I'm patiently waiting for a couple years to get a 7-8 year old 911 for around 35k.

tomonomics 01-28-2016 07:11 AM

Agreed that these cars all look like Hot Wheels or something out of the movie 'Cars' with the 20" wheels. It would likely force me to go with darker wheels to minimize the effect.
